Even a great scriptwriter wouldn’t have written a better script than what destiny unfolded for Indian football captain, Sunil Chhetri.

A few days ago, a national hero, Sunil pleaded his countrymen to come and watch his team play in the stadium after their epic 5-0 win against Chinese Taipei. The whole nation united to support him and what we have as a result is the beautiful Intercontinental cup win.

As the tournament comes to an end, Chhetri also completed his 100 International matches and won India the competition. He also levelled the great record set by football fame Lionel Messi for the most number of current international goals.

In the final match at Mumbai arena, the high-spirited, Sunil scored two goals to snatch the title from Kenya.

Then in the 28th minute, Sunil hit the ball into the goal to match Lionel Messi’s record. Right after making the goal, he ran towards the spectators and thanked them for listening to him and coming to watch team India play. He also blew the kiss.

Chhetri was fantastic throughout the tournament. In four matches he managed to put football eight times into goal court. Including the hat-trick against Chinese Taipei.

Indian football captain, Sunil Chhetri has now become the highest active goal-scorer in the world after Ronaldo to take the number two spot in the international rankings.
